Hi there, my name is Alexa!
I am a recent graduate of Washington State University with a degree in Zoology. I was born and raised in Maui until I left home for college. I am currently 22 and like most of you on this site, I am a pole and aerial enthusiast. I instruct pole classes at my university, and a few other formats as well. I founded both the aerial club and pole fitness classes at my campus. My favorite pole style is exotic and I love performing to this style in showcases and competitions. I currently hold my XPERT Level 1-4 Pole and ACE Group Fitness Certifications.
Aside from pole and aerials, I like to play videogames, crochet, do DIY projects, and of course, hang out with my pole squad.
So what is this website exactly for?
Welcome to Campus Pole Fit!
So what is this website exactly for? Well, I’ve created this site to connect students at other universities that currently have pole or aerial related clubs and help those who are interested in starting a club.
I will show you the ropes from start to finish on how I created my club, offer guidance, and tips for funding your club, gaining traction with your university and its students, and provide a sustainable model to continue your club once you graduate. The journey I took for creating my club and becoming involved in the pole community was challenging given the circumstances of my university area, but the end result has rewarded me with life experience, a potential career path, and most importantly, the friends I’ve made along the way.
Through the blog, I will share my victories and defeats as I created my club and the lessons I’ve learned from them. Now don’t get me wrong, without a problem we wouldn’t be able to learn anything. But, by sharing my learning experiences with you, we can better understand each other and our needs to create a successful club on campus.
I want current clubs and students that are interested in starting a club to recognize that the support doesn’t just end in your area. We are a community of dancers, performers, and athletes that are here to advocate for you, provide encouragement, and assistance when faced with adversity.
Here, we can progress together as we plan a course of action for you and your university to create a viable and feasible pole or aerial club.
I always get asked this question
I always get asked the question, “Why did you come to Washington from Hawaii?” When you grow up in the same small place your whole life you just need to get away — also I got an acceptance letter from that school and they had the major I wanted to study. It was just a logical choice.
When I was a freshman in high school at age fourteen, I took my first pole dancing class. I wasn’t a very active person at the time aside from swim team and hitting up the beach with friends. I didn’t think that taking a single-pole class would change my life as much as it did. I took the class with a friend and it was like our little secret.
Fast forward a few years and I decided to graduate early just because I didn’t want to be in high school any longer. I had to take a break from pole because of the academic load.
